Best Practices for Book and Business Clients
Microsoft Word. Book clients must submit and use Microsoft Word for book manuscript audits and edits. Aroian Editorial only accepts electronic submissions. We do not accept paper submissions, nor do we edit on paper. Writers submitting manuscript for editorial consideration must be proficient in using email, including the ability to attach audio, image and print files as well as URLs. If a client contracts for multiple rounds of edits, manuscript files must follow an agreed-upon naming convention (Aroian Editorial can establish a simple one) for the purposes of version control.
Business clients only may submit and contract to work within shared Google files.
Track Changes. Book clients must be proficient at using Microsoft Word’s Review dropdown menu. Proficiency in Word and active participation in the use of its Review features are of primary importance to the editing process. Here are the basic technical skills we require of all book clients:
- Activate Track Changes.
- Create, delete, and resolve a New Comment.
- Review, Accept, and Reject a manuscript edit.
- Move from Previous to Next change item.
Storage: If clients wish to host a DropBox file storage system, they must create, house, and provide access to the manuscript site. Any additional fees for storage are the responsibility of the client.
Hours. Our hours are Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm (Central). Potential clients may submit their queries through the Aroian Editorial website contact form. We operate under a full schedule of daily deadlines and, unfortunately, cannot answer unscheduled phone calls. Please schedule projects as far in advance as possible. Our projects are often booked six months in advance. We believe an important part of the writing and editorial process is to walk – and walk away from the computer. Thus, we do our best to rest our eyes and enjoy our friends and families on weekends and holidays.
New! Our Services and Fees Are Expanding
- If, as a potential client, you would like to schedule a consultation call with Karen Aroian to discuss your project, please fill out the consultation form on our Contact page. Aroian Editorial charges $150 per hour for its consultation services.
- If, as a new client, you need help increasing your ability to use the features within Microsoft Word or Google, search for appropriate online tutorials. If you wish to set up a tutorial with Aroian Editorial for that service, we can set up a call. A fee of $150 per hour must be paid upfront on the Aroian Editorial website for each phone or videoconference session.
- One or two client calls (phone or videoconference) are a standard part of each Audit and Edit Service Contract. If an author requires additional calls beyond the scope of their contract for any reason, Aroian Editorial charges $150 per hour for its consultation services. Clients pay in advance for this service by mailing a check or paying electronically on the Aroian Editorial website.
- If a client wants additional coaching, mentoring or support for writer’s block or problematic issues that the writer wishes to discuss by phone or videoconference beyond the contract agreement, Aroian Editorial charges an additional $150 for these advisory calls.
- Upon project completion, unless requested by an author, Aroian Editorial will not be responsible for storage of any manuscript, art, audio or image files. All files will be deleted 2 months after project completion or inactivity. Aroian Editorial will notify client of fees for holding inactive files: $99 per month for storage of manuscript projects that remain on hold in our possession longer than 2 months.
- Aroian Editorial may offer occasional live group writers’ workshops via teleconference (2-hour group sessions) and recorded introductory classes. Details regarding course offerings will be made in advance. If you are interested in participating, please contact us through our website submission form.
